What do I need from you in order to be able to find a job for you?

  1. player resume, (for example what the school had on you in their  yearbook), season stats from all year at college, personl dates ( name, adress, date of birth, height, weight, position you play)
  2. a full game from last season; and maybe a hightlight film
  3. a copy of your passport
  4. name of the airport you would fly out off
  5. the agency agreement

Does Slammers guarantee you a job?

No ! I can’t guarantee you a job; nobody can do that unless the person is the manger or coach of the team. I can only guarantee that I will do my best and that I will work hard. It’s in my interest to get you a job, that’s what I live off. If you don’t get a job, I won’t make money either.

Do I need a visa?

If you have an US passport, you don´t need a visa for most of the countries (France, you do need to apply for a working visa before you come over). You always need a passport. Apply for it as early as possible and make sure it´s still good for another 12 month before you come to Europe.

Who pays for the plane ticket?

The team has to provide you a round trip /go and return) airplane ticket. This is normally an electronic ticket which will be waiting for you at the airport.

Where do I live?

You will have an apartment for yourself or together with a team mate. You will have your own room, bathroom, kitchen, TV, phone, internet.

Medical insurance

Paid for by the team.

Telephone + Internet

Will be in the apartment. Phone bill and internet bill is on you. You can get an internet flat rate so that you can be online with no limit and you can use skype to call home. Meanwhile almost all teams provide an internet flat rate.

Local transportation

Some teams provide a car, others provide a monthly ticket for the public transportation. Sometimes the apartment is next to the gym and local transportation is not needed. Most of the cars have stick!

Meals

Some teams offer a hot meal. But in general you should be able to take care of your own meals and be able to cook for yourself. The kitchen will fully be furniture with dishes, silver ware, pots and frying pans.

Tryout period

Each contract starts with a tryout period. That gives you the chance to check the team out and the team to check you out and to put you through a fitness test and a medical check up. During the tryout period the team can send you home and you can go at any time. After the tryout period the contract is guaranteed.

Can I leave the team if I get a better offer?

No, that’s what contracts are for. They guarantee you the job and they guarantee the club the player.

Can I bring my family, my boyfriend, my girlfriend?

Not without the permission of the club. You have to let them know in advance and normally they don’t pay for the tickets.

When does the season start and when is the season over?

That depends on the country you will go to. It’s normally from August or September until May.

Travelling with the team, who pays for it?

The teams pay for the travelling and they also pay for the hotel.

Currency, credit card, bank account, payment?

You normally get paid once a month by the end of the month. The team will help you to open a local bank account in your name. They will pay you into your account. The currency is normally the Euro. 1 Euro = 1,35 US dollar. You will get paid in Euros because that is what you need here. You can use international credit cards like Visa, Master Card, and American Express. Regular bank cards don’t work in Europe. You should have some money on you when you get here because you will only get paid by the end of the month/beginning of next month.
