My Favorite Write Up!
DeAndre Bray, 5'6" Junior guard, Jacksonville State: Davidson's Jason Richards is the king of the assist category, but Bray runs a very respectable second with 8 per game. The difference is that Richards is 6'2" and passes to Stephen Curry, whereas Bray can be carried to the games in a suitcase and passes to... really any teammate who comes into his field of vision. The Gamecocks have ten players averaging over 6ppg, and the top two scorers are averaging a modest 10 per. Jax State is 2-7, and seems to find every way possible to lose (41-34 at Samford, then 90-81 two days later at Tennessee-Martin), but you can't blame that on DeAndre. He's doing his job - passing to his teammates - it just seems the recipients of his largesse don't exactly know what to do with the gifts they've been given.
