“He was an All Canadian playing for the Concordia University, although he had several scholarship offers from NCAA schools. He decided to stay in Canada at that point for family reasons. He did very well playing against NCAA teams – for instance he led his team to a win over the University of Illinois (NCAA D1 – Big Ten), where he scored 24 points. The Illinois coach said after the game that he had no one who could guard Damian” (Andy Hertzog coach of the 2011 CCAA National Champions Vanier College).

Damian earned a lot of praise when Concordia took on some tough U.S. competition fall of 2008. Against top NCAA teams like Utah State (23 points and 7 steals) and Rhode Island (26 points), he proved he can compete with the best. Buckley was with Canada’s Development Men’s National Team June of 2008. He played a key role in Canada’s 82-72 win over the U22 All-Star Italien Team (Selezione Lega Nazionalle Pallacenestro). He chipped in 14 points for Canada, along with 3 rebounds and 2 steals in the game.
