Career/Comments:

Berry is an athletic slasher with incredible scoring ability and the sky is the limit when speaking of his potential! Very versatile, has no problem scoring inside and out. Decent ball handler who finishes strong at the rim. This guy is a fierce competitor with a winning spirit and knows how to find a way to get the job done. Great guy and very much coachable. His long arms and great jumping ability allows him to defend players of all positions and run the floor with the best of them! He has proven himself at every level so far and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. This player possesses a deadly mid range game and a consistent 3pt jump shot to compliment his inside scoring attack and high flying finishes! A young player also at the age 22, so conditioning and competing night in and night out is no problem. Aside of being able to just play the game, Berry can think the game at a high level! He understands and reads the floor well with and without the ball and a great floor leader who is a great team player and makes his teammates better. A NATURAL BORN WINNER!

He ranked fifth in the nation in points per game and second in total points while setting a new school single-season scoring record at 740 points, eclipsing Clifton McNeely’s mark of 725 set in 1947. The previous record of 725 points stood for 62 years! Berry received The Most Outstanding Male Athlete award. He has been rewarded with numerous honors including NAIA 1st-team All-American, NABC State Farm Coaches NAIA All-American, and Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Awarded RRAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK 7 times. Berry was also named to the 2009 Buffalo-Funds NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball All-Tournament team. In 34 games this season, he was the team’s leading scorer 24 times. Berry also led the team with 58 steals and set another school record with 216 free throws made (that record was also held by McNeely with 213 in the 1946-47 season). “Chris Berry's contribution to Texas Wesleyan University is immeasurable,” said head coach Terry Waldrop. “His work ethic, heart, and passion have been cornerstones on an incredibly successful team this season. Chris has had the biggest impact in one year of any player that we have ever had here, and we have had some pretty good ones. To be recognized with this honor nationally is something that is well deserved and very fitting for him.
